Katy Perry showed off QR code tattoo at 2024 MTV VMAs

Katy Perry attended the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards as the Video Vanguard Awardee for the year. She drew a lot of buzz on the red carpet. But it wasn't for the Who Decides War outfit. Instead, it was about what was tattooed on her skin. On her lower back, you see a QR code etched in black ink.

Those who scanned it found a pre-save link to Perry's upcoming album, 143. It's a clever little marketing trick to promote her music. And whether you consider it "unserious" or "genius," it got people talking about what she has in the pipeline. She isn't the first to use QR codes for marketing. Remember how Coinbase crashed its app because of sudden interest after its QR code ad during the Super Bowl back in 2022?

GarageBand gets new Katy Perry, Seventeen 'Remix Sessions'

GarageBand on iOS and iPadOS get new DJ sessions that can help users learn to mix two songs. Katy Perry's "Harleys in Hawaii" and K-Pop group Seventeen's "Darl+ing" are added to GarageBand's Sound Library this time. Elements of both songs are added to the app so that you can experiment with them.

On top of adding the songs, Katy Perry's track is the subject of the new in-person Today at Apple sessions. "Music Skills: Remix Katy Perry" will be a live tutorial showing how to use GarageBand features in depth. Apple used Seventeen's "Darl+ing" as a Today at Apple session when it promoted the opening of its Myeongdong store in South Korea.
