LG V30 will come with an f/1.6 lens, a first for smartphones

LG just doesn’t want anything to do with leaks anymore so ahead of its August 31stlaunch of the V30 the company is sharing more information about the upcoming device. Hoping to give an even better photography experience, the V30 will be the first smartphone with an f/1.6 lens aperture. This means it’ll let in 25 percent more light than phones that have f/1.8 aperture (like the iPhone 7). Aside from this, LG says a glass lens will be added to the internal construction of the new camera to deliver more faithful and sharper images. We can’t say though if LG plans to bring it to both of its dual-camera setup. But it is clearer now that LG is making sure you still recognize the great multimedia capabilities of its V series.

As a recap, the V30 promises to be a smaller device than the V20 but will still sport a 6-inch OLED display with a 2:1 aspect ratio and 2,880 x 1,440 resolution. LG also claims it’s reduced the edge distortion of its wide-angle camera to lessen that fisheye effect.

LG V30 to get OLED display, new leaked render for the phone’s display surfaces

Updated on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:57AM by Registered CommenterGadjo Cardenas Sevilla

LG has just confirmed that its next flagship, the V30 is getting a six-inch OLED display as rumours have stated before. LG says it’ll get a FullVision display, which means it gets a similar display with the G6. That means, we’d get to see an 18:9 aspect ratio with thinner surrounding bezels. GSMArena got a new leaked render showing off what the display could possibly look like. You can see it between the G6 and the Samsung Galaxy S8+ in the image above. As The Verge points out, it’ll be a smaller device than the V20 but will have bigger screen real estate. Its upper and lower bezels will be reduced by 20 and 50 percent, respectively. The LG logo will be relegated to the back of the device. Aside from that the OLED display will cover 109 percent of the DCI-P3 color and support HDR10 with VR compatibility in mind. It’ll be LG’s second OLED phone since the G Flex 2 was announced two and a half years ago. We’re expecting to see the V20 successor at IFA in Berlin on August 31st.

The FullVision display’s immersive and expansive visual experience is enhanced on the 4.15 million pixels of the QHD+ (1440 x 2880) OLED screen. Superb image quality is achieved via emissive OLED technology which reproduces perfect black and colours with greater accuracy and across a wider colour spectrum.

LG V30 tipped for September 28th global release

The invite for the LG V30 launch hints at the possible shape of the new LG flagship

The LG V30 is going to be launched at the end of August at IFA in Berlin. As for the official release of the phablet, a leaked internal document shows plans for the new flagship, which they codenamed JOAN. It’s said that the V30 will go on sale in on September 15th in LG’s home country, South Korea. After that, the V30 is expected to go on pre-order in the US on September 17th and will go on sale on the 28th. The document also states that the global launch will be on September 28th.

Some of the leaked specs of the V30 include a 6-inch edge-to-edge OLED display with super thin bezels, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, and 4GB/6GB of RAM wit 64GB of storage. LG V30 specs show up on GeekBench

With the LG V30 coming out at the end of August, which is the day before IFA kicks off in Berlin, anticipation is high for the new flagship. Now, we get to see more about the device as it’s been spotted on GeekBench app. It seems to be sporting the same specs that flagships coming out this year have: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB of RAM. It’ll also reportedly run on the latest version of Android Nougat (7.1.2). Based on the GeekBench leak, it shows that the multicore score of the V30 is well over the 6,300 mark but it still doesn’t beat the Xiaomi Mi 6 with its score over 6,700. That said, benchmark scores aren’t the only indicators whether a device will work well in real life. We’d just have to wait for the device to launch on August 31st in Germany.
