Review: Google Nexus Player

The Nexus Player is really a container for software, in this case, Lollipop. While some of it feels half-baked right now, I think that we can expect updates to improve the experience and add more compelling functionality in the future.

 

Google launched Android OS 5.0 Lollipop with three devices. The Nexus 6 phablet, the Nexus 9 tablet and the Nexus Player, which is a streaming set-top box, which runs on Android's Material Design UI.

Nexus Player, made by ASUS, is the evolution of Google TV, which was an earlier attempt at cashing in on the success of rival devices like Apple TV, ROKU and others. The device is powered by a 1.8 GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor.

Since Google launched the versatile and affordable Chromecast, which is a real game changer in the streaming devices market, it seems that Nexus Player is something of a Chromecast Plus, but is it really?

Review: Google Nexus 9

The Nexus 9 is an intriguing entry into the tablet space. By making it the first device to feature the latest, greatest Android Lollipop OS, Google seems to be making a statement about its renewed commitment to tablet users and this is a good thing.

The Nexus 9 is built by HTC, which hasn’t had great success with tablets and which hasn’t made a new tablet since 2011, but who was compliant enough to take the design language of the Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 and incorporate some of its own features (i.e. BoomSound speakers) into the mix.

Android OS 5.0 Lollipop launching on Google Play and Nexus devices

The latest, greatest version of Google's popular Android OS, version 5.0 or Lollipop is going to start rolling out on Google Play Edition and Nexus Devices today. Featuring an all new look and feel hinged on the new Material Design user interface, a move towards 64Bit computing on certain devices. Google is including Lollipop in the newly announced Nexus 6 phablet, Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus Player set-top box.
