OnePlus, McLaren partnership comes to an end

Or in the words of a McLaren spokesperson, the partnership "came to its scheduled conclusion recently." There won't be any more McLaren-branded OnePlus phones in our immediate future. But it seems the automaker was satisfied with the partnership, calling it a "highly successful collaboration between two iconic and innovative brands." And it looks like they aren't saying there won't be possible collaborations in the future. According to their statement, "OnePlus has been a supportive, valued partner and we wish them well and hope to see them in the future."

The two companies started collaborating in 2018, and we've seen McLaren Edition models of the OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 6T. And there was the OnePlus Concept One, which never got an official release beyond the prototype.

OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition might have 50W Warp Charging

Aside from carrying what's most likely going to be a really expensive price tag, there's one feature coming to the limited edition OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. The latest teaser from OnePlus suggests the phone will be "charging is about to hit warp speed." What does warp speed mean? In this case, it's going to most likely get a 50W charger in the box.

Earlier this year, OnePlus trademarked Warp Charge, not soon after its sibling company OPPO unveiled Super VOOC (50W) charging for its own supercar-themed OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition. Aside from possibly getting 50W charging, OnePlus is ditching its signature red charging cable for an orange one to match McLaren's signature colour. We should know more once the phone launches in London on December 11th.

OnePlus announces McLaren partnership, teases special smartphone release

OnePlus and McLaren Automotive and McLaren Racing have just announced a partnership that the two brands will launch on December 11. What this new team-up could mean is we get a special edition version of the OnePlus 6T, bearing design elements inspired by the automotive company. With the timing of the announcement and event, and that the original landing page for the partnership having the phrase mclaren-6t in its URL, we’re expecting the said limited edition device to come out. What we’ve seen from the other tech and car company collaborations are that these devices are going to have maxed out specs with rather exorbitant price tags.

This is the first partnership OnePlus has done, it’s partnered with the likes of Parisian retailer Colette for the 3T x Colette 20th Anniversary Edition, designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac for the OnePlus 5 x JCC+ Limited Edition, Lucasfilm for the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition, and Marvel Studios for the OnePlus 6 x Marvel Avengers Limited Edition. The wait isn’t going to be that long to find out what OnePlus and McLaren have up its sleeves. The current version of the OnePlus 6T has a 6.41-inch full-HD+ Optic AMOLED display with 1,080 x 2,340 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB/8GB of RAM, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and has a dual camera setup in the back with a 16-megapixel primary sensor and 20-megapixel secondary shooter.
