iMessage-like Windows 10 'messaging everywhere' feature omitted from Summer update

Microsoft has reportedly decided to drop the "messaging everywhere' feature in Windows 10's Anniversary edition. The feature sync's messages across all your Windows 10 devices and PCs, similar to what Apple's iMessage and Messages apps have done for years on iOS as well as Mac devices signed into a specific email address.

The feature is supposedly enabled by turning on the "Send texts on all my Windows devices" enabled users to send and receive text messages from the Messaging app on their computer that synced directly with the app on their phone. There's no ETA on when this feature will grace Windows 10 devices.

Stickers are coming to Twitter with hashtag searches

It is clear now that we're slowly moving away from purely textual communication and slowly embracing various other forms of expressions beyond emoji, animated .gifs, stickers and funky text effects. We've seen what Apple has planned for iMessage in iOS 10 and now Twitter is giving users a wider palette of expression with stickers which you can search for using hastags. It's the Snap-chatization of messaging on a wider scale and more ironically, these features were all telegraphed by BlackBerry's BBM years ago, but not enough people were listening. We'll it looks like we're all listening now as this is an inevitable evolution of messaging applications.

YouTube tries out messaging feature within app

Courtesy of Google via AP

To share YouTube clips, what you’d usually do is copy the URL and send it using some other app. YouTube wants to keep you within its app by introducing a new messaging feature. They are currently testing it out with a small number of users on iOS and Android to see if it’s a viable addition to the app. Having their own messaging feature will encourage users to stay within the app and ease the sharing process for its users. It will also give YouTube more opportunity to show more ads to over one billion users of the service.

Other lets you send canned messages to one person

If you regularly message someone with updates like you’re heading home or stuck in traffic, the Other app for iOS will make it easier for you. It’s a bit like a launcher for messaging but you just do it for another person (perhaps your spouse). It allows you to create canned messages that you can send through the iPhones Messages app. If you use one of the newer iPhones, you can even have a 3D Touch shortcut for this on your home screen. Other also comes with a share extension, letting you send URLs to this person with just a few taps.
