Microsoft Surface Duo spotted on Vancouver SkyTrain

This isn't the first time the Microsoft Surface Duo has been spotted in the wild—even the company's CEO Satya Nadella has been seen with it. The dual-screened, foldable tablet and smartphone is slated for a launch later this year, and it looks like it's getting some real-world testing. Twitter user Israel Rodriguez (@yzraeu) spotted the Surface Duo on the Vancouver SkyTrain.

It looks like the user is checking email on the right screen, while the left shows the homescreen. There isn't much else you can glean from the photo. But it does look similar to what we've seen of the Surface Duo before. This out-in-the-wild appearance won't be the last time we'll see this hybrid device. With its release nearing, we're sure there will be more information about the Surface Duo, well, surfacing.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella spotted using the Surface Duo smartphone

We don't have a specific release date outside of "Holiday 2020" for Microsoft's dual-screen phone, but at least we know there's a working prototype out there. The company's CEO Satya Nadella is spotted with the Surface Duo while he was talking with the editor of Yahoo Finance Brian Sozzi. It isn't a great look at the device, unfortunately.

The Surface Duo is a foldable, Android-powered device, which has been skinned to work more in line with Window's design.

The Surface Duo is the Microsoft phone we've all been waiting for

But Microsoft doesn't want you to call it a phone, even though it can take calls and the video above suggests otherwise. It's a foldable device in a new category. "It's a Surface," Panos Panay, Microsoft's chief product officer tells Wired. It certainly looks like a foldable phone, especially since it runs Android apps.

It has two 5.6-inch displays attached via a thin centre hinge that unfolds flat to create an 8.3-inch diagonal split working surface. It folds back so you can use just one side of the screen at a time. It might not have as seamless a screen as the Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold, but with Gorilla Glass screens it could avoid the issues Samsung faces with its plastic display.
