MediaFire offers 50GB free storage for new desktop app

File hosting site MediaFire takes an aim at Dropbox’s market with a new desktop app for Windows and OS X. MediaFire Desktop allows you to upload and share files directly from your desktop and gives you 50GB of free storage. However, CNet claims the maximum individual file size is set at 200MB and allows drag-and-drop uploading instead of syncing. It is important to note that if you won’t be uploading videos, then the file size cap should just be fine.

Microsoft Windows Do or Die challenge just got real

Windows is taking three students and plunking each of them in the middle of a foreign city with nothing but a Windows 7 laptop. No money, no suitcase, no security blanket. To survive, they’ll have to create, connect and share with Windows 7 + Windows Live, while the world watches at www.DOorDIE.ca.

Windows has found a group of quick-witted, connected, street-smart folks from which three survivalists will be selected. Hopefuls will have to convince the DO or DIE community they have what it takes to survive and earn their vote. The final three will then get to bring a friend, a laptop and a Windows Phone for their 10-day challenge while the community follows their progress, cheers them on, and maybe even helps them out.
