Microsoft brings printing capability to Office for iPad

The ability to print was sorely missing when Microsoft launched Office for iPad. But with a new update to the apps (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), users can now print their files on any AirPrint-capable printer. Microsoft has even updated Excel and PowerPoint to improve the way content is arranged and make things look well-spaced and better looking. It hasn’t been long since the Office apps were introduced and we’re glad to see Microsoft listening to their customers. We’re hoping they continue with this trend of releasing faster, smaller updates for their products.

Free group video calls now available on Skype desktop and Xbox One

Skype is ramping up its group video capabilities for users on desktop as well as on the Xbox One. Initially a feature for premium subscribers, the Group Video Calls feature (for 3, 5 and 7 users) is now readily available to anyone with a desktop provided you have the hardware requirements to enable it. Google has been attacking the enterprise with its Hangouts feature on Chromebox devices, so it makes sense that Microsoft will respond in kind by offering expanded functionality for Skype.

Internet Explorer security flaw puts users at risk

Security firm FireEye has discovered a security flaw in Internet Explorer, particularly version 9 to 11, that lets hackers gain full access to your computer.  FireEye said the active exploit also targets Adobe Flash and it lets hackers install programs on your PC, view and delete information, etc. by just visiting a site. A quick remedy is to stop using IE and opt for Chrome or Firefox. But if you are sticking with IE, Microsoft has published advanced methods you can use.  There is no patch at the moment but Microsoft is reportedly working on it.

Microsoft works out kinks with Windows Phone's music app

Microsoft just released an update for its music app to address issues that cropped up on the Windows Phone 8.1 preview, such as no Cortana support and buggy interface. Now, the app lets you use voice command to search for playlists you want to list to, pause and play music, etc. Interface transitions look like they are smoother, too. And it woould seem the unexpected black screen issues are gone as well.
