Mozilla doesn't plan to delay Firefox update releases

Mozilla plans to keep its four-week release schedule for new Firefox Stable versions, which means the next update scheduled for April 7 will arrive on time. But Mozilla noted that feature development might be slowed down, given our current situation. The organization plans to take a look at planned features and will delay some of the non-critical changes. Google has previously announced that it would be postponing planned releases of Chrome and Chrome OS to ensure the stability of its platform.

Firefox update will switch off notification pop-ups by default

Ever been annoyed by the notification pop-ups on Chrome? Firefox is giving you another compelling reason to switch over. The web browser will block-by-default the notification pop-ups that continuously show up on Chrome. Mozilla ran a test on how its users interacted with pop-ups, and they found that 97% of users dismissed or blocked them. What Mozilla is doing doesn’t mean that notifications will be done away completely. The browser will be substituting the pop-up with an icon in the address bar to alert you that there is a notification that requires your attention. The stable version of Firefox 72 will be introducing the feature, and it’s expected to launch in January 2020. Firefox Nightly has the feature now, though.

Mozilla works on fix for bug that prevents Firefox extensions from working

There's a bug affecting Firefox that's preventing users from installing as well as using existing extensions. According to Mozilla, the problem is because of a certificate expiration and that it is working on a fix right now. It has begun rolling out a fix for users and there's nothing from your end that you should do. Mozilla discourages users from deleting and re-installing extensions because this will remove any accumulated data. Right now this fix doesn't apply to Firefox ESR and Firefox for Android, but the organization is working for a patch there as well.

The fix being rolled out now uses the Studies system, so you'll need to enable that if it's not turned on from your end. You can check the blog post to see if feature is on from your end. Mozilla says they're also working on a fix that won't require the system to be enabled.

Firefox gets iPad support

It took a while but now the Mozilla Firefox app finally gets support for the iPad. It can now take advantage of iOS’s built-in split screen and keyboard shortcuts. Tabs are now easily viewable with the help of tiles and private browsing is a tap away from the main screen. You can now send tabs to other synced devices without copy-pasting links.
