Neil Young restores catalog on music streaming services

After one year or so of swearing off music streaming services due to audio quality issues, fock/rock musician Neil Young finds his music catalog back in the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer. His music has been on Tidal due to the streaming service offering a “HiFi” tier in its service for those who want lossless quality tunes.

Young had been concentrating on its Pono brand, which included the PonoPlayer and PonoMusic download service. Both focusing on offering maximum audio quality. However, PonoMusic has been offline since July following the acquisition of its platform provider Omnifone. Perhaps, the drop in income has made Young reconsider his position. If you’re a fan and on these services, this is good news for you.

Tidal scores another streaming exclusive with Kanye West’s new album

You love him or you hate him but Kanye West isn't going anywhere. Yeezy is back with a new album called The Life of Pablo and if you want to get your hands on it, it’s available for exclusive streaming over at Tidal. You can also score a digital copy of the 18-track album on Kanye’s Tidal page for US$20. Kanye joins the likes of other music superstars like Rihanna and Beyoncé. Rihanna released her ANTI album while Beyoncé debuted her single “Formation” exclusively on the service. If you aren’t on Tidal, you have to wait for a week for the album to make its way to other services.

Apple Music reportedly already has 10 million subscribers

Apple Music seems to be well on its way to becoming the biggest streaming music service in the market. Apple’s streaming music service has reportedly hit the 10 million mark. Of course, if you relate this to Spotify’s 75 million active listeners (thanks a lot to its free tier), they still have a long way to go. But in terms of growth Spotify took six years to reach the same milestone and they now have 20 million Premium subscribers.

Apple won’t confirm the figures but it’s not a surprise they were able to reach those numbers immediately. Since day one, they launched in over 100 countries, which Spotify wasn’t able to do from the get-go. And if you’re one of the many iOS users, you’re constantly reminded to sign up and use the service right off the bat. Plus, they're also trying to lure Android users to use the service as well. Or perhaps, we also have Taylor Swift’s help to account for that, too.

Find out what you listened to the most with Spotify’s ‘Year in Music’ recap

Did you have Taylor Swift’s music on repeat all year? Or was The Weeknd more your thing? Spotify’s “Year in Music” feature gives you a recap of the songs you listened to this year. It will even suggest new tunes you might want to check out in 2016 based on the songs you’ve listened to previously. The site will also show you what were the top songs you’ve listened to; who were the top artists you’ve listened to; and how long and how many tracks have you listened to on Spotify. And of course, you also get a new “Play It Forward” playlist based on your past year’s listening habits.
