TomTom has been selected by Volvo Cars as the provider of location and navigation content and services for its new infotainment platform. From 2019, Volvo Cars’ customers across the globe*, across all carlines on the SPA and CMA platforms, will be able to enjoy an exceptional navigation experience powered by TomTom’s complete suite of components, both embedded and cloud based.

Waze may come pre-installed on your next Android phone

The next generation of Android phones might come with the Waze. The navigation app is part of Google’s Mobile Services, which is a list of apps manufacturers and carriers can ship with their devices. If you remember, Google bought Waze two years ago and kept it separate from Google Maps. Of course, it seems like a plan to get more people to use Waze but that’ll still depend on the carrier and manufacturer if they intend to carry it.

TomTom to offer navigation technology for Acer smartphones

TomTom and Acer have entered a multi-year agreement to bring navigation technology to Acer’s mobile devices. The companies introduced the NavKit-powered AcerNAV, a turn-by-turn navigation app that will let you navigate anywhere in the world without additional roaming charges. It features route planning and interactive 2D and 3D maps that you can download for free. The rollout for the app with start in Europe during the last quarter of this year.

Review: TomTom RIDER motorcycle GPS

If you’re an avid two-wheeler looking for a dedicated GPS device, the TomTom Rider is an impressive, if expensive, piece of kit.

Some motorcycle riders might scoff at the idea of using a GPS of any kind – even the one built in to most smartphones. It’s too high-tech they would argue, and it reduces the raw, bugs-in-your-teeth experience that riding a bike is supposed to be all about. You’d never catch the boys from Sons Of Anarchy glancing down at a GPS screen, would you? They always know where they’re going!

And, to a certain extent, I buy in to that mentality. But a much bigger part of me likes the idea of having a device that can not only find a great riding route for me, but also guide me via voice or screen-based directions so that I’m free to concentrate on the road and the scenery – the two reasons I ride.
