Nokia to reportedly debut Android phone at MWC

Nokia is said to be revealing its first Android device at this year’s Mobile World Congress. The Verge quotes a Wall Street Journal report that claims the device codenamed “Normandy” will carry a “forked” version of the operating system from Google, which is similar to what Amazon did with the OS for its Kindle range. Nokia will reportedly integrate Microsoft services into the device and have a special application store for Android apps.

There aren’t too many details on the press event Nokia is holding at MWC in Barcelona except for an invite that says to “meet us under the tree.” We’ll keep you posted on any updates.

Leaked image of Nokia’s Android-powered Normandy surfaces on Chinese social network

We reported earlier about the potential Android-powered device from Nokia called Normandy. And while we still stand by the idea that the concept won’t turn into an actual product. Someone on the Chinese social network leaked an engineering prototype image of Normandy. It is covered in a protective case but looks quite similar to the image leaked by @evleaks.

Nokia dabbles with Android in their leaked Normandy device

I always wondered what a Nokia Android device would be like and based on some recent leaks of the Normandy inteface, we get a clearer idea and look at the alternate reality where Android runs on Nokia hardware.

Looking very much like a simplified Lumia device, these Normandy renders show what looks to be a visual mashup of Windows Phone and Android but with a heavy Nokia flavour (that's a good thing). Now that Microsoft owns Nokia, it is unlikely that we'll ever know what this device would have been like or where it would fit in the hierarchy of Android devices. Still, it's always fun to think of what could have been.
