OnePlus 6’s selfie portrait feature is coming to the OnePlus 5 & 5T

Responding to user feedback from its first Open Ears Forum in India, OnePlus is bringing its selfie portrait mode from the OnePlus 6 to two of its predecessors the OnePlus 5 and 5T. Without dual-front facing cameras, its implementation is similar to the Google Camera and the Google Pixel 2, meaning it’s purely software based. Porting won’t be much of an issue as both phones feature a 16-megapixel front shooter like the OnePlus 6. OnePlus hasn’t exactly said when it’s coming but we’re sure to hear from them when it does arrive.

OnePlus release red version of the OnePlus 6

OnePlus just made official a new color variant for its current flagship: the OnePlus 6. The new color will simply be called Red. It takes off from the popularity of the Lava Red edition of the OnePlus 5T but the company wanted it to be “passionate with a level of visual restraint.” According to OnePlus, it wants the quality to be similar to amber but have “an enduring appeal that will last for years to come.”

Using a new film coating process, OnePlus was able to achieve that “amber-like depth and clarity.” The company also made use of a new evaporated layer of brightening film to get that glossy transparent layer over the red coating. This new color option will be exclusive to the 8GB/128GB variant but will carry the same $769 price tag as the other color options. It’ll be available in all markets where OnePlus phones are sold starting July 10.

OnePlus 6 gets officially launched

Seemingly on schedule, or slightly earlier than its June refresh window, OnePlus just announced the new OnePlus 6, the company’s first 6.3-inch 19:9 OLED display with the controversial notch. As we’ve come to expect from the company, they pair this with a Snapdragon 845 processor, Adreno 630 graphics, up to 8GB of RAM, and maximum 256GB UFS 2.1 storage. Its display has a 2,280 x 1,080 resolution protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. OnePlus doesn’t just redesign the phone but also now replaced the unibody aluminum case with a glass back. It’s one of the first phones to support Android P beta. On the camera front, we get a dual 16-megapixel/20-megapixel rear shooters, with the main 16-megapixel sensor being bigger by 19 percent (putting the pixel size at 1.22um). You get a 16-megapixel front camera as well.

There are three colors that it comes in: mirror black, silk white, and midnight black. The mirror black retails for US$529 for the 6GB/64GB model and US$579 for the 8GB/128GB model, meanwhile the silk white and midnight black come in at the US$579 price point and a special US$629 price for the midnight black with 8GB/256GB configuration. All these variants are going on sale starting May 22 from OnePlus’ online store in North America, India, and across Europe.
