Motorists cautioned to 'Lock it Down' when it comes to leaving vehicles and valuables in plain view

With the holiday season almost upon us, Ontario's Police Chiefs are encouraging motorists and passengers to LOCK IT DOWN! when it comes to their vehicles and to not leave valuables in plain view. The Province's top cops today launched the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police's (OACP) annual Lock It OR Lose It campaign in Toronto.

The campaign is a crime prevention program that encourages drivers and passengers to take precautions to protect their vehicles and vehicle contents from theft, particularly during the holiday season, but also throughout the year.

OPP pleading with drivers to take action, or else

Distracted driving has been identified as a causal factor in almost 5,000 collisions on OPP-patrolled roads and highways so far this year. We see this multiple times every day, people just can't get off their phones!

 This is why from September 12 to 18, the OPP is following through on Week #3 of its 2011 distracted driving campaign "Phone in One Hand, Ticket in the Other". "Our goal is to give out as few tickets as possible", says Deputy Commissioner Larry Beechey, Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support. "Our goal is to increase compliance with the existing legislation and one of the ways we do that is increasing the risk of being caught."

Ontario Provincial Police warns of new Internet scam

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Anti-Rackets Branch is investigating an Internet-based fraud scheme and warning the public to exercise vigilance when dealing in business transactions with unknown individuals over the Internet and/or by telephone.
