Qualcomm and OPPO partner to bring ray tracing to Android games

Source: Qualcomm and OPPO

When the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile chipset comes out, you can expect a fully optimized hardware-based ray tracing feature, which we'll see on devices like the upcoming OPPO Find X flagship phone. OPPO took the stage at the ongoing Snapdragon Summit 2022 to demonstrate the latest achievements OPPO and Qualcomm have made in mobile ray tracing technology.

The next Qualcomm chip is expected to offer multiple ray tracing effects, allowing top mobile games to run at a steady 60 frames per second while offering "life-like soft shadows and reflections for the highest gaming visual quality." Its ray tracing render efficiency is increased by a factor of five and with a reduced CPU workload by 90%.

The OPPO Find X has a very expensive Lamborghini limited edition version

If Huawei has Porsche as its partner, then its Chinese rival OPPO has Lamborghini. Announced at the tail-end of the Find X’s launch in Paris, the premium smartphone gets a big boost (especially in terms of price) with the Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition. This special model costs a whopping 1,699 euros (around CA$2,600) and will be coming to Europe in August. It shares most of the specs of the Find X but what sets it apart is new packaging and design, even faster charging, and more storage.

The Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition has things like Super VOOC charging, which fast charges this phone’s 3,400mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent within 35 minutes; a carbon fiber textured rear engraved with a 3D-like engraving of Lambo’s logo; and 512GB of onboard storage. The phone’s packaging has “Y” design on the box, which comes from the shape of the Lamborghini Aventador’s car light and its charging cable features a woven pattern similar to the ignition coil of the Aventador’s V12 engine.

OPPO Find X: The era of pop-up cameras is here

The Chinese company OPPO might not be a brand you’ve heard of before but be prepared to read tons of news on their newest smartphone that’s launching in a few hours from the Louvre in Paris. It’s going to be OPPO’s first phone that’s coming to North America and Europe. Called the Find X, it’s ditching the notch in place of pop-up cameras to give you an impressive 92.25 screen-to-body ratio. Unlike the Vivo Nex (another Chinese brand), which just hides the front camera with a pop-up mechanism, OPPO has hidden all its cameras and 3D facial scanning system. It’ll motorize up when you want to unlock the phone or use the cameras (25-megapixel front-facing camera and dual 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel rear-facing cameras). The company promises that it’ll take 0.5 seconds for the camera to open. As mentioned, it’ll pop-up when you want to unlock the phone because there is no fingerprint authentication system on the OPPO Find X. The company relies on the 3D facial scanner for biometric authentication.
