OnePlus, Google are working together to 'improve' Wear OS

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau recently confirmed in an interview that the company is working with Google to improve the Wear OS platform. Lau also said that OnePlus is working on a smartwatch, although he didn't say whether the wearable will run on Wear OS or not. Google is said to be on board to work on the Wear OS software as well as how the operating system interacts with Android phones and Android TV. Lau didn't address the fitness features that Wear OS needs to improve on. But with Google's pending acquisition of Fitbit, we expect to see developments in the health and fitness space.

It won't be the first time Google is working with an OEM to develop its software. Google has done so in the past with NVIDIA. The companies collaborated to make substantial changes to the Android TV Oreo update before updating NVIDIA's Shield TV series.

Don't expect OnePlus 7 to have wireless charging

If you've been clamoring for wireless charging on the next OnePlus phone, then we're sorry to say but it doesn't look like that's happening just yet. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau told CNET during an interview at MWC 2019 that he doesn't think it's worth adding to his products. He said through an interpreter that "OnePlus charging is one of the best." And that "wireless charging is far inferior."

Lau expressed his skepticism over wireless charging speeds. With the company's own physical quick charge plug, OnePlus claims you can get your battery to 50 percent charged in 20 minutes and fully charged in less than an hour. OnePlus is working on speeding up the charging time for wireless charging, but it still hasn't figured out how to do so without too much heat. When asked about Qualcomm's plans to bring quick-charge technology to wireless charging, Lau refused to comment about possibly using the technology.

OnePlus CEO confirms the OnePlus 6T won’t support wireless charging

While we’ve seen what the OnePlus 6T could look like and what we can expect, we don’t know all there is about it just yet. But the company’s CEO Pete Lau is willing to talk about what we won’t be seeing this time around: wireless charging. In an interview with CNETLau said the limits of wireless technology and its impact on charging times is the reason why we won’t be seeing it in the company’s newest flagship. Lau boasts of the company’s proprietary fast-charge technology we know as Dash Charge and how wireless charging won’t be able to offer the same experience. That and it would generate a lot of heat and require a thicker device. Lau says they are working to address this limitation but it won’t be coming to this device for now.

OnePlus CEO spills beans on OnePlus 6’s specs

Writing about the upcoming OnePlus 6, CEO Pete Lau shares what the company wants to create with each new device

OnePlus isn’t know from keeping its secrets too close to its chest. With the OnePlus 5T off the market, at least in this part of the world, OnePlus’s CEO Pete Lau is ready to talk about what’s coming next (a.k.a. the OnePlus 6). Lau took to the company’s forums to discuss what customers can expect from the OnePlus 6. What we know now is that it’s going to run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB internal storage. These specs aren’t that surprising as we expect the best from the flagships we come across now. We’re probably just a few weeks away from the launch of this new phone, especially with the leaked teaser of a possible Avengers tie-up.
