Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Google Pixel 3 earn top marks for selfie cameras from DxOMark's test

Today's flagship smartphones are all about camera performance and when it comes to taking selfies, the two best devices in the market according to DxOMark are the Google Pixel 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

These two devices are noted for capturing natural skin tones and preserving details, vivid colours and depth. Since selfie camera use is as dominant as the rear feacing camera (being deployed 40 per cent of the time), DxOMark devised new criteria for testing front-facing shooters focusing on skin tone, colour accuracy, sharpness, exposure, contrast and depth.

Google's Pixel 3, with its dual frong-facing camera setup (ideal for group selfies as well), and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 garnered scores of 92. They were followed by the Xiaomi's Mi Mix3, Apple iPhone XS Max and the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus which earned scores of 84, 82, and 81 respectively.

The latest 'Made by Google' hardware serves to frame innovative software and services

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

There were few surprises in today's 'Made by Google' event. Many of the devices, including the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, Pixel slate 2-in-1 Chromebook and even the new Chromecast, have been outed in various renders, videos and some have been even sold before hand.

The surprises, however, came in the form of software and services which make these devices potential game changers in their specific categories.

The new Pixel 3 smartphones look like mild refinements from last year's duo of impressive devices. This time around they improve on camera hardware as well as feature innovative computational features to ensure the best photo by taking shots even before the shutter is pressed. The new Top Shot feature, which debuts on the Pixels 3, shoot multiple HDR+ shots to ensure you can capture a great image. The new Pixels also promise impressive low-light photography and zoom. Pixel 3 also brings IP68 water and dust resistance.

Notchless Google Pixel 3 leak brings smartphone design back to sanity

Google Pixel Subreddit

Continuing our 'Summer of Leaks' where all major smartphone releases have been shown front and centre weeks before product launch events, we now see the new Pixel 3, the smaller of the two Made by Google smartphones expected to launch in October. The well-balanced and somewhat austere device is refreshing in that it doesn't feature a notch on the display.

Compared to the enormous notch on the larger Pixel 3 XL, this smaller device will suit users who want Pure Google but aren't sold on having a notch or a larger format smartphone.
