Google is reportedly rebranding Android TV with rumoured 'Chromecast with Google TV' dongle

For the past few months, we've been referring to Google's rumoured new Android TV dongle by its codename Sabrina. Now, new leaks share the possible official name of the device and its price. Artem Russakovskii of Android Police discovered a listing on Target's retail system that calls the dongle "Google Chromecast with Google TV," and it's reportedly priced at US$50 (around CA$66).

The rebranding of Android TV to Google TV has been reported by 9to5Google back in May, with a new user interface supposedly heading its way, too. Google Chromecast with Google TV will reportedly be available in the colours Rock Candy, Summer Melon, and Summer Blue. Of course, the final pricing and model name can be entirely different when Google launches the device. But based on leaks, the dongle will come with a remote control, a Google Assistant button, and a UI focused on apps and services.

Google's 'Sabrina' Android TV dongle spotted on Canadian database

It has been rumoured that Google is developing a new Android TV dongle with the codename Sabrina. It was recently spotted on the US' FCC site. And now, it's been seen on Canada's certification site, suggesting the launch is imminent. The devices with codenames GZRNL and G9N9N are said to be the TV dongle and possibly its remote control, respectively.

An earlier leak reports the TV dongle will run on an Amlogic S905X2 processor, which uses four ARM Cortex-A53 cores and an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. It will supposedly support up to 4K videos, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision standards. It is also expected to support Auto Low-Latency Mode and Stadia gaming.

Google's rumoured Android TV dongle could launch soon

Google is rumoured to be launching a new Android TV dongle to be the Chromecast Ultra's successor. Codenamed Sabrina, it appeared at the FCC, which suggests the official launch could happen soon. The FCC filings show two new Google devices with model numbers GZRNL and G9N9N. The former is an "Interactive Media Streaming Device, while the latter is described as a "Wireless Device" on the FCC website. Based on the descriptions, GZRNL could be "Sabrina," while G9N9N could be its remote control. As expected, the filings don't share critical details about the device, except for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The leak back in June revealed that the TV dongle will run on an Amlogic S905X2 processor, which uses four ARM Cortex-A53 cores and an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. It will supposedly support up to 4K videos, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision standards. It is also expected to support Auto Low-Latency Mode and Stadia gaming. Google is set to launch the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 on September 30. So, there's a possibility we'll see Sabrina then.

Netflix's 'The Chilling adventures of Sabrina' strikes the middle ground between teen drama and horror series

Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is the second series following Riverdale which uses the characters and mythology from the Archie comics. Like Riverdale, which has recently taken on a very dark and very gritty True Detective meets Midnight Express turn, Sabrina Spellman's world, is similarly explicit in its exploration of horror themes.

The series, which debuted at midnight last night (Witching Hour, get it?) Is like Mean Girls with covens and demons instead of diabolical debutantes. Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) embodies the chaste yet defiant Sabrina Spellman, who upon turning 16, must sign her name to the dark forces and let go of all her mortal friends and connections.
