Review: TCL 10 Pro

By Canadian Reviewer Staff

TCL may not be the first company to come to mind when it comes to flagship smartphones. This is the world’s number two television maker after all and has built a name for itself in making premium screen technology widely available.

What most people don’t know is that TCL has been in the smartphone game for some time. It was a licensee of brands like Alcatel, Palm, and BlackBerry. TCL was behind the resurgent KeyOne and Key2 models, the very last smartphones that featured QWERTY keyboards.

The TCL 10 Pro comes as a complete surprise in a year where many of us are in dire need of good news. For the price of a base iPhone SE 2, the TCL 10 Pro offers an impressive and crisp 6.47” FHD curved AMOLED display the likes that we’ve only seen on flagship Samsung phones. This TCL 10 Pro has a four camera array with up to 64MP ultra-high resolution photo capability, plus standalone  macro, super-wide angle, and low-light cameras as well as a 24 megapixel front facing camera. It also features an in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock, something that some other flagship smartphones don’t even have yet.

Consider a fast-charging 4500 man battery with OTG reverse charging and a decent Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 Octa-core processor with 6GB of RAM and 128 GB of onboard storage, and it looks like TCL has hit the sweet spot in terms of features given its  $700 CAD  (Bell) and 665 CAD (Telus) pricing.

New Samsung Galaxy S10 leak shares more info about display, colour options

More leaked details of the Galaxy S10 series are coming in. The phones, which are going to be launched on February 20 in San Francisco, have been revealed to us bit by bit by different sources. This time, CompareRaja shares more details about the line we haven’t heard yet. The Galaxy S10+ is the only one getting a dual selfie camera setup. Colour options for the S10 and S10+ include Black, White, Blue, and Green, while the S10 Lite will be getting a Yellow option as previously rumoured. The last one is said to be targeting a younger crowd. This leak corroborates rumours about the battery capacity of the phones. It also claims that only the S10 and S10+ get the ultrasonic in-display fingerprint readers, but instead of a different in-display fingerprint sensor, the S10 Lite is reportedly getting a side-mounted reader.

A deeper look at the Samsung Galaxy Note9 DeX running on the HP Elite X3 Lap dock

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Here's a more extensive walkthrough of how the Samsung Galaxy Note 9's built-in DeX functionality works with an HP Elite X3 Lap Dock. This Lap Dock was designed for a Windows Phone using Continuum to enable certain apps and services to extend to the lap dock screen, keyboard and trackpad. It works quite well for native Google apps but third party applications like Netflix and Instagram do not scale the whole size of the screen.

The HP Elite Lap Dock also doesn't seem to work with other USB Type-C devices (it didn't work with a MediaTek processor powered Planet Computers Gemini or a Microsoft Surface Go). I no longer have my Note9 review unit so I cannot test functionality on the Lap Dock any further, but it was interesting to see how much of it did work.
