Report hints at release dates for the new Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL

Leaked render of the Google Pixel 2 XL

The Google event, which is where we’re expecting to see the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, is almost upon us. But information about the new devices are still cropping up online. This time, the latest leak from Evan Blass (@evleaks) hints at the release date for the two devices. The Pixel 2 will supposedly be arriving this month on October 19th, to be specific, while the Pixel 2 XL will be coming next month on November 15th. According to Blass’s story on VentureBeat, there could also be a pre-order period for both devices ahead of the release but it wasn’t stated when that would be. With the Pixel 2 supposedly coming out a couple of weeks after this event, we won’t be surprised if that happens immediately.

When it comes to price, the Droid Life reported a few weeks ago that the Pixel 2 will reportedly retain last year’s prices at US$649 for the 64GB version and US$749 for the 128GB. And the Pixel 2 XL gets a price bump from US$769 for the 32GB to US$849 for the 64GB model and from last year’s US$869 for the 128GB model to US$949 for the same storage size.

Rumour has it there won’t be a OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6 expected early 2018

If you’ve been holding for OnePlus to release a OnePlus 5T, you might not get your wish. Rumour has it that OnePlus isn’t planning on releasing a T version for the OnePlus 5. Instead, they are setting their sights on releasing OnePlus 6 in early 2018. Last year, OnePlus released the OnePlus 3T to upgrade the OnePlus 3’s processor from a Snapdragon 820 to 821. The OnePlus 5 is a pretty powerful device on its own so we’re not surprised that an upgrade isn’t in the cards—or at least this is what the rumours suggest.

Huawei tipped to unveil Mate 10 on October 16th

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei is tipped to be releasing the next iteration of its Mate line in a couple of months. On an image that looks like it could be an official invite or teaser, the words “Meet the device worth waiting for” written on top of a backdrop that has the number 10 on it. The image also shows details about the event: October 16, 2017 in Munich, Germany. Whether this is real or not, we should find out soon enough. For now, the rumoured specs of the Mate 10 are said to include an almost bezel-less 6.1” 18:9 screen with 2160 x 1080px resolution, a Kirin 970 processor, 6GB of RAM, Android 7.1 Nougat, and dual rear camera setup.

Razer might be looking to get into the smartphone business

Is a Razer smartphone in the works? Apparently, it is. A new report from Bloomberg claims the company is working on one. And it’s targeting an IPO in Hong Kong around October that could value the business at US$5 billion. According to the report, some of the funds will be used to build this gaming-centric smartphone. It’s not an unlikely move for the company, even with its current focus on gaming laptops and peripherals. Razer bought smartphone company Nextbit earlier this year. They have said it’ll operate as an independent company but they haven’t really spoken about plans for Nextbit since then.

We won’t know at the moment if the phone will be sold under Nextbit or Razer and when it could be released—if it does hit the market. But with the IPO scheduled later in the year, we’re sure we’d have to wait until next year for this rumoured smartphone to come out (if it ever does, that is).
