OnePlus tipped to outdo itself with 6,500mAh battery on next smartphone

OnePlus has been pushing the boundaries of smartphone battery capacity. Following the impressive 5,400mAh cell in the OnePlus 12 and the even larger 6,100mAh unit in the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro, rumours suggest the company is preparing to take things to the next level.

Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station claims an upcoming OnePlus flagship will boast a massive 6,500mAh battery. While the exact model remains unconfirmed, the OnePlus 13 or OnePlus Ace 4 are the prime contenders. The Ace 3's groundbreaking Glacier battery technology, which enables nearly two days of usage and rapid charging without excessive bulk, could be the foundation for this new battery.

Expected alongside these larger batteries are micro-curved flat screens with either 1.5K or 2K resolution. The OnePlus 13 is also rumoured to feature IP68 or IP69 water and dust resistance and the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. While release dates are still speculative, the OnePlus 13 is anticipated by the end of this year or early next, with the OnePlus Ace 4 likely arriving in 2025.

iPhone 16 lineup poised for battery boost

iPhone 15 Pro Max (Photo: Apple)

Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 series is set to deliver longer battery life, thanks to a significant battery upgrade. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the tech giant is increasing battery energy density while ensuring safety by enclosing the cells in a stainless steel casing. The increased battery density—expected to be around 5-10%—will primarily benefit the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

This design change not only enhances battery life but also simplifies replacement, aligning with the EU's upcoming repair regulations. With the EU's mandate for user-replaceable smartphone batteries looming in 2025, the industry is undergoing a transformation. Apple's rumoured move to a stainless steel battery case is a proactive step towards meeting these regulations while enhancing user experience.

Google Pixel 7a tipped to get a coral version

Image: Evan Blass

Aside from the rumoured Google Pixel Fold, the Google Pixel 7a is expected to debut at Google I/O 2023. And with it, a new colour option will be available: a coral shade. It's reminiscent of the Oh So Orange colourway for the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 6's Kinda Coral. Evan Blass has also shared this render with the orange shade dominating the back of the phone. Its camera bar gets a slightly lighter shade to distinguish it from the rest of the body.

If the leaks are accurate, this would be the first time Google offers the Pixel in four color options: white, black/grey, sky blue, and coral. Reports say the coral variant will be exclusively available at the Google Store.

Samsung might not release a Fan Edition version of the Galaxy S22

Source: Samsung

After just a couple of years, Samsung is reportedly no longer planning to release a Fan Edition version of its flagship smartphones. SamMobile cites unnamed "multiple sources" that it won't make a Fan Edition model of this year's Galaxy S22. The company might be finding it difficult to place the device within its portfolio. The S21 FE was released almost a full year after the S21, and it came out just a few weeks before the Galaxy S22 was unveiled. It proved difficult to get people to care about the S21 FE when the new S22 flagships were launched.

Will you miss the Galaxy S22 FE? Let us know what you think?
