Sony surpasses Nintendo in game console sales for FY2013

It’s been a long time coming but now Sony has managed to overtake Japanese rival Nintendo in the game console market for the 2013 fiscal year. Sony was able to sell 18.7 million consoles which is a few million more than Nintendo’s 16.3 million figure. These sales reflect current generation consoles like the Sony PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Wii U as well as previous generation machines like the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Sony PS 3, and Sony PS Vita. We’re hoping this isn’t the start of Nintendo’s descent but it’s not looking good at the moment.

Sony PlayStation 4 to get pre-loading feature for pre-ordered games

Games are taking longer and longer to download because of growing file sizes. Sony wants to ease the process for you by adding a pre-loading feature for games you pre-order. The feature will be available starting this September with the release of Bungie's next big game Destiny. You can download the game prior to the September 9 release date and be ready to play once midnight strikes on that day.

Sony bumps up prices of PlayStation 4 in Canada

If you thought you’d get a better deal by waiting to get your Sony PlayStation 4, then you’re in for bitter surprise. Sony will increase the price of the console by $50 to $449.99. Sony told the Financial Post that the price hike is due to “changes in the market environment.” No specifics were mentioned but speculation is due to the weakening Canadian Dollar.

Sony is also bumping up the prices of some accessories and games. The Dualshock 4 controller and PlayStation Camera are going to be bumped up to $64.99 from $59.99. And the games MLB The Show ’14 and Infamous: Second Son will sell for $69.99 instead of $59.99.

First look at the Sony PlayStation 4

Sony has kept the PlayStation 4’s form factor under wraps since they first introduced it in February. Now, we finally get to see how it looks like. The very angular PS4 is said to be coming this “holiday 2013” but no official word yet when it is coming. It is, however, $100 cheaper than the Microsoft Xbox One at $399 and maintains that single player disc-based games are still freely sellable and tradeable even without connection to the internet.
