Our Favourite STEM toys, games, and tech for families for the holidays

We are coming down to the wire with holiday gifts—especially since we're mostly shopping online these days. To avoid delays and disapointments get hustling! This is not the year to be last minute shopping on Christmas Eve. Over the past few months we've explored some fun items to add to our gift guide. Of course if we can double up learning AND fun? We can make proudly high-five ourselves and claim the title of 'Parent of the Year'. STEM toys (or STEAM) for kids still continue to wow us and of course, our eyes turn to what games are out there. Thompson Reuters to host host Girls make Games development program

Thomson Reuters will host Girls make Games, an international game development program designed to inspire elementary and high school girls to pursue interests in STEM related fields. 

Participants will engage in game design, programming, and entrepreneurship workshops led by professional game developers to create their very own video game. Hit jump for details.

GM Canada Brings STEM education to students through camps and program funding

General Motors of Canada is inspiring technological innovators of the future to pursue careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) through the support and encouragement of children, particularly young girls. 

Today, fewer than half of high school students graduate with senior STEM courses despite the fact that 70 per cent of Canada’s top jobs require this type of education. (Source: Let’s Talk Science, Oct 2016 Release) There is an even greater concern for the decline of women in these programs.
