CES 2013: Synology launches public beta for DSM 4.2 at CES with more apps and features

Synology America Corp. announced the launch of the public beta for DSM 4.2- the latest advance in Synology’s award-winning NAS operating system.  The new DSM version brings improvements for both home and business users at no additional cost.

Synology’s Quick Connect includes more apps than ever before.  In addition to Cloud Station and DS file, Quick Connect has added support for DS audio, DS photo+, and the new DS cloud apps.  This allows users to remotely connect apps through their DiskStation without the need to forward ports in their router.

CES 2013: Kingston Technology launches 1 Terabyte Flash Drive at CES

It is amazing what we can carry in our pockets these days. Kingston Technology showed off a new USB flash drive that can handle 1 Terabyte of data. Aptly named the Kingston DataTraveler Hyper X Predator, the drive is covered in Zinc-Metal Alloy. Using USB 3.0 and featuring  speeds up to 240MB per second and 160MB per second depending on the model. Kingston isn't the first to market with a 1 Terabyte drive, Victorinox showed one at CES last year but that cost $3,000. The DataTraveler Hyper X Predator starts at 512GB  and that model costs $1,750 and is available now. The big 1 Terabyte variant ships later on but no price has been announced.

Seagate acquires LaCie

Seagate Technology plc. and LaCie S.A.  announced the completion of the purchase by Seagate of all of the shares of Philippe Spruch and his affiliate, representing 64.5% of the outstanding shares of LaCie for a provisional price of €4.05 per share. The price payable to Philippe Spruch and his affiliate may be increased by 3%, to €4.17 per share, in the event that within six months following today's date, Seagate holds at least 95% of the share capital and voting rights of LaCie.
