Telus to build office and innovation centre in downtown Victoria

Telus will be opening its regional headquarters in downtown Victoria, B.C. The national carrier plans to build a commercial office and innovation centre on the city-owned land at 749‑767 Douglas Street, on the corner of Douglas and Humboldt Streets. Telus is paying $8.1 million to purchase the property, along with an additional $1.1 million purchase price adjustment depending on the final proposal submitted and approved as part of the rezoning process.

The centre will house approximately 250 employees, and it'll serve as an innovation hub to showcase Telus' advanced communications and information technology. Victoria-based Aryze Developments will serve as Telus' community development partner. The team will make sure the project aligns with the shared goals of the community, city, and the company.

Koodo introduces 'Call Control' to help weed out spam calls

Photo by Hassan OUAJBIR on Unsplash

Telus' flanker brand Koodo is introducing "Call Control" to make it easier to keep spam calls out. Telus already has this feature, and we'll talk about how you can access it later. What Call Control does is ask first-time callers (at least since you've enabled the feature) to enter a number between 0-9. If they enter the right number, the call will go through to you. If not, then they'll be notified that they've been prevented from reaching you.

This task is simple enough to let actual callers through while stopping robocalls from connecting to you. You can add up to 25 numbers to an "Authorized List" to avoid Koodo from screening these calls. And if there are numbers you don't want reaching you at all, you can add up to 25 numbers to your "Blocked List."

Telus, Koodo offer two months of free wireless service to B.C. frontline healthcare workers

Telus and flanker brand Koodo are helping out the frontline healthcare workers and operational staff at Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health Authority by offering them two months of free wireless service. The two B.C. facilities were chosen because they cater to areas in the province hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is part of Telus' Mobility for Good initiative, which gives youth coming out of foster care access to a phone and service plan.

Those who qualify from Vancouver Coastal Health include frontline staff members or physicians who are actively working on COVID-19 patient care units or those assigned to key COVID-19 response roles. Meanwhile, those from the Fraser Health Authority who qualify include staff who work in housekeeping, food services, and environmental departments. Telus claims the program has been extended to select hospitals and healthcare facilities in Quebec and Ontario, with Alberta to follow soon.
