Happening now: Tesla unveils their Model X electric SUV

Another great step forward in automotive evolution, Tesla's first new vehicle in three years, the Model X, is an hour away from being released into the world. The Model X has been in the works for many years now and challenged by various delays. It is said that pre-orders are backed up into next year. The first few dozen models, called Signature Edition are already spoken for and cost upwards of US $130,000 a piece.

The Model X will have three rows of seating and lots of space, which sounds like your garden variety SUV. But being a Tesla, it does have some tricks up its sleeve. It has 'Falcon Wing doors" which are giant gullwing doors that swing upwards. Tesla Model X will have a minimum 250 miles of range with a 90kWh battery pack. Acceleration and performance is also off the charts with 0-60 mph expected at around 3.2 seconds (on the Ludicrous speed setting) which is supercar territory and a bit insane for a family car.

Tesla's pushing out a livestream of the event right now and it is running late.

Tesla opens site to sell used electric cars

Tesla likes to sell its electric cars directly to the public and they’re extending that to their used vehicles as well. The company just opened an online store for pre-owned Tesla cars at a discount. It’s available through a handful of cities in the US and Canada at the moment. But it comes with 4-year, 50,000-mile warranty to assuage fears that you might be getting a lemon. It’s still going to cost you a bit but for those who want to own a Tesla but don’t have enough to pay full price, this might be a good deal.

Tesla’s site and Twitter account gets hacked

Hackers seem to have gotten into both Tesla’s website and official Twitter account. Around 5PM ET, tweets showed up on its page that suggest that the site was no longer handled by the company. It doesn’t seem like anything to grave but it was still an unsophisticated prank of sorts. They changed the account name to #RIPPRGANG and they even posted a number and said to call it to get a free car. Their site also seems to have been compromised. Tesla managed to get back control of both accounts.

Although, even Tesla’s founder Elon Musk got his personal account hacked into. That one seems to be in order as well.

Tesla Motors supercharger network enables electric travel in Western Canada

Tesla Motors has energized the highly-anticipated Supercharger corridor between Vancouver and Calgary, enabling free, long-distance electric driving for Tesla Model S owners.

The completion of both Highway 1 and the Sea-to-Sky Highway enables Tesla Model S owners to now travel for free between Whistler, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. A full map of the Western Canada network is available at teslamotors.com/supercharger.
