We now have the new Batman. Robert Pattinson has officially signed the former Twilight star to play the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The new Warner Bros. superhero film is set to come out on June 25, 2021. The studio confirmed on Friday that Pattinson signed the deal. Pre-production for the film is expected to start this summer, but we don’t know yet when filming is going to start. Reeves, who directed the last two Planet of the Apes films, took over directing duties of this film from Ben Affleck in January 2017. He will also co-produce the film with Planet of the Apes collaborator Dylan Clark.

It will be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who co-wrote the first film with Will Beall. James Wan and Peter Safran will be producing the film. Aquaman starred Jason Momoa as the titular superhero, who is the son of a human lighthouse keeper and an Atlantean queen. The film’s cast also included Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Dolph Lundgren.

Warner Bros. is also developing another film in the Aquaman universe currently called The Trench. It is being described as a horror spinoff of the original film and focuses on the creatures in that underwater realm. Wan and Safran are also producing the said film.

Warner Bros. pushes back filming for ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’

Warner Bros.

Production for the next installment of the Fantastic Beasts has been pushed back. The reason is they need more time for pre-production. Instead of starting filming in July, it’s going to begin in the late fall of this year. As Deadline mentions, the studio tended to rush event films to keep release dates, but with Fantastic Beasts 3 having a 2020 release, they’re willing to give more leeway when it comes to the schedule. Not much is known about the film yet, but it’s said to focus on Grindelwald and Dumbledore’s relationship. The film will also address the unanswered questions from The Crimes of Grindelwald. David Yates will be directing the film with J.K. Rowling, David Heyman, Lionel Wigram, and Steve Kloves acting as producers. Rowling will be writing the screenplay.
