Malwarebytes 3.0 causes MS Office to crash on Windows 10 Creators Update

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

I've been experiencing a frustrating issue where my Microsoft Word documents crash whenever I try to cut text for copying or pasting. This issue was so persistent that it rendered MS Word unusable and even caused hours of lost work as well. I eventually got my Surface Book replaced under warranty because of this and another discovered hardware issue. Imagine my surprise when, three days later, after reinstalling all my applications and settings, the issue started up again.

Because of the issue, Microsoft Word users running on Windows 10 Creators Update can't cut or paste content from Word or even paste and save content. Word freezes up, has to be restarted and your document cannot be recovered.

Malwarebytes, is an antivirus and anti-malware solution. Mine is the paid version yet the company still has not made a fix available (instead, they are asking for users to install their latest beta version of Malwarebytes v. 3.1.0.1716. Personally, I avoid installing beta software on my work machine, so I have no recourse but to uninstall Malwarebytes from my Surface Book until they fix this serious issue.

Microsoft set to release VR headset details at December events

There won’t just be one event that’ll detail what we can expect from Microsoft’s virtual reality headsets. There will actually be two WinHEC events to be held on December 8 to 9 and December 14 to 15 where details on the VR headsets for Windows 10 will be talked about. The headsets are designed primarily for hardware manufacturers to showcase what the company plans to do software-wise for Windows Holographic. Microsoft partnered with the likes of HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, and ASUS to create VR headsets that will plug into Windows 10 and provide the Windows Holographic shell and experience.

The first round of headsets and devices are expected to ship following the release in March of the Windows 10 Creators Update. These gadgets will debut with prices starting at US$299 and above. These first devices won’t be heavily focused on the mixed reality projections Microsoft is targeting with HoloLens. Instead these will be traditional VR headsets that support six degrees of freedom and inside-out tracking. VR experience will differ from product to product as well since they come with various prices and specs.

iMessage-like Windows 10 'messaging everywhere' feature omitted from Summer update

Microsoft has reportedly decided to drop the "messaging everywhere' feature in Windows 10's Anniversary edition. The feature sync's messages across all your Windows 10 devices and PCs, similar to what Apple's iMessage and Messages apps have done for years on iOS as well as Mac devices signed into a specific email address.

The feature is supposedly enabled by turning on the "Send texts on all my Windows devices" enabled users to send and receive text messages from the Messaging app on their computer that synced directly with the app on their phone. There's no ETA on when this feature will grace Windows 10 devices.

Microsoft moving away from consumer phones, might linger in enterprise moving forward

The fate of Windows Phone or Windows 10 on Mobile has been up in the air for some time now since Microsoft has repeatedly proven that it is pulling back (but not out) of the mobile market altogether. With the recent sale of Nokia's feature phone business plus the general ambiguity regarding the direction of Microsoft as a mobile device maker, we now get confirmation that the company is looking to move past its desire to compete in the consumer smartphone market. With market share falling less than 1 per cent globally, there's really little else the company can do to make their platform more exciting for consumers at this point.
