Disney+ in Canada has most of the 'X-Men' movies

21st Century Fox

If you want to watch most of Fox's X-Men franchise, you can now stream these films on Disney+. With the acquisition of 21st Century Fox in March, Disney owns the rights to the X-Men films. And the titles you can stream now include X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), X-Men: First Class (2011), The Wolverine (2013), and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016).

Some of the missing titles include both Deadpool movies, Logan, and Dark Phoenix. With its focus on family-friendly entertainment, Disney+ will most likely not get Deadpool and Logan as these movies are R-Rated. As for Dark Phoenix, the film just came out in June, so there might be existing rights agreements that bar Disney from putting it on its streaming service. Deadpool isn't available on any Canadian streaming service right now, while Deadpool 2 can be streamed on Bell's Crave platform. Logan used to be on Netflix, but it has since left the service.

Kevin Feige talks about future of X-Men and Fantastic Four in the MCU

Ever since the news broke that Disney is set to buy most of 20th Century Fox, people have been excitedly talking about the possibilities of the X-Men and Fantastic Four being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel’s boss and producer Kevin Feige shares his thoughts on the matter. He shuts down rumours saying these Marvel superheroes won’t be making a cameo in Avengers 4 set to come out in 2019. The earliest he says they can come in would be the year 2020.

Talking to Vulture, Feige says, “The truth of the matter as I understand it is the deal has to be figured out. There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it.” He adds, “We’ve announced everything through 2019, so none of those would be adjusted.” So far, after Avengers 4, we know that Phase 4 of the MCU will be kicked off with the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

‘Logan’ is the last ‘X-Men’ film for Patrick Stewart

So it looks like it isn’t just Hugh Jackman that will be leaving the X-Men franchise. Patrick Stewart is exiting the franchise 17 years since he starred as Professor X in the first film. He made the announcement during a SiruisXM Town Hall event alongside Jackman and Logan director James Mangold. He had the realization during the time the three watched the film together last week in Berlin.

“The movie ended… and we were going to be taken up on stage, but not until the credits were over. So, we had some time to sit there and, as I sat there I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie. So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over.'” So if you want to see Stewart play Charles Xavier one last time, you can watch Logan starting March 3.

There’s still a ‘Gambit’ movie in the works

Image: Marvel Wikia

We’ve heard of Gambit getting his own movie but that was a while back. Since then, it’s changed hands a number of times but no one quite knows if it was still happening. Apparently, it still is. Producer Simon Kindberg confirmed that the movie is still alive and in the works and they hope to start shooting by spring of next year. According to Comic Book Resources, the reason for the delay was the script and Kindberg felt back in May that it wasn’t ready for filming but it looks like we might finally be getting that new X-Men spinoff soon with Channing Tatum playing the titular character.
