Yahoo’s Aviate launcher now up for download

Following Yahoo’s purchase of Aviate, the “self-organizing” home screen is now available for download for all Android users. The app is designed to show you apps and information you need at the time these are required. This means your navigation apps will be brought to your attention when you’re commuting or you’ll get the news in the morning. You can also access your contacts by swiping home from the home screen as well as get commute time estimates based on the weather. If you want to try this out for yourself, you can download it here.

Yahoo to stop support for ‘Do No Track’ requests

Yahoo recently announced that they would stop honoring Do Not Track requests. This technology works to keep sites from tracking users’ activity but it needs the third-party to agree that they would honor these DNT requests. The reason behind Yahoo’s decision is that they “fundamentally believe” the best online experience is a personalized experience. They would prefer their users use the privacy tools the company offers on their platform. It is going to be a bit tedious to tinker around with your settings on Yahoo but to continue using their services this would be your only recourse at the moment.

Yahoo redesigns Finance app for iOS

Yahoo is introducing a new look for its Finance app for the iPhone and iPad. It places the stocks and companies you are interested in front and center. You can follow companies to keep up to date with their activities. You’ll be able to see breaking news and personalized stories based on the stocks and interests you follow. There are also interactive stock charts that show historical changes. This will help you compare performance and identify trends as well as compare stock, market, or index for any related price changes. The Yahoo Finance app is available for free download on the iTunes App Store.

Yahoo revamps Mail for iOS app, adds news and info search

Yahoo has redesigned its Mail for iOS app to make it simpler to manage your email inbox, read up on news, and look up information. There is a new panel at the bottom of the screen with three icons for Mail, News, and Today. There is a new swipe option for easier sorting of your inbox and a conversation view to look at your email threads. The News section shows news items curated specifically for you. And the Today section shows information like stock info, weather, sports scores, and the like. Yahoo is rolling it out to US users in the coming weeks and we hope the update comes our way soon, too.
