Google launches Samsung's Nexus S as new flagship smartphone
What's this! Google has officially launched its new flagship smartphone the Nexus S and it comes preloaded with Gingerbread (Android 2.3). Essentially a rebranded Samsung Galaxy S complete with the Super AMOLED screen backing a 4-inch contour display, 16GB of storage and a 1GHz Hummingbird processor. It is interesting to note that previous "chosen" Google phones (the T-Mobile G1 and the Google Nexus One) were made by HTC but this one has Samsung written all over it. Finally, the cat is out of the bag. Well, it's been poking it's whiskers out for a couple of weeks, now. The only remaining question is whether/when a Canadian version will be made available for Rogers, Bell and TELUS. This current phone looks like it will only work on Mobilicity and WindMobile. Not good, if you travel outside of Toronto.
Hi Mick,
The initial release in the US will be compatible with Wind and Mobilicity. I do think that they will soon offer an AT&T compatible version (eventually) which should work on Bell, Telus and Rogers. It is likely that Google will offer these for online sale (like they did with the Nexus One) for a limited time before they sell it through carriers.
BTW, early hands on reports are that the Galaxy S is a beast. The combo of Gingerbread and the high-end processor and RAM combine for a smooth and even faster than Froyo experience.
