Google launches Samsung's Nexus S as new flagship smartphone

What's this! Google has officially launched its new flagship smartphone the Nexus S and it comes preloaded with Gingerbread (Android 2.3). Essentially a rebranded Samsung Galaxy S complete with the Super AMOLED screen backing a 4-inch contour display, 16GB of storage and a 1GHz Hummingbird processor. It is interesting to note that previous "chosen" Google phones (the T-Mobile G1 and the Google Nexus One) were made by HTC but this one has Samsung written all over it. Breaking News: Google Nexus One resurrected, now available from Mobilicity for $549

One of the most sough after Android super smartphones, Google's own Nexus One (developed by HTC) was prematurely discontinued a few months ago when Google realized that the direct-to-user phone sales system it was employing wasn't working well and sales fell short of expectations. Telus announces HTC Desire coming soon to Canada

Telus announced the arrival of HTC's Desire super-smartphone yesterday. The HTC Desire sports a large 3.7 inch AMOLED screen, Android OS 2.1 with HTC Sense and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and will work on Telus' HSPA network.

 

The HTC Desire shares a lot of the features of Google's Nexus One but adds certain innovations like an optical trackball with no moving parts. No specifics on pricing or availability were confirmed but the phone is expected to be announced soon.
