First Look: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1" inch honeycomb tablet

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

We just checked out the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 at a Samsung showcase in downtown Toronto. Coming to Canada sometime soon. Exeedlingly thin, the Tab 10.1 inch feels generations ahead of the 10-month-old Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" inch. The 10.1" inch screen is crisp and bright and the rear is mostly white plastic with a sliver of aluminium where the camera is.

It feels very much like the iPad 2 except the screen has a higher resolution. Samsung has poured a tablet version of TouchWiz over Honeycomb and it looks and works better than Google's vanilla tablet OS. the Tab 10.1 has a proprietary charging port that requires proprietary (oh, brother!) HDMI and USB cables to be used with the Tab. Compared to the Motorola XOOM and the Toshiba Tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is exceedlingly slim and light but might be perceived as frail. We learned during the demo that it does not have Gorilla Glass.

Stay tuned for a video walkthrough coming later today.
