CES 2013: Samsung ups the ante on SmartTVs in Las Vegas with quad-core processors and apps

Samsung didn't go for the jugular during their yearly CES press event earlier today. They could have announced a new killer smartphone or even a new Phablet. Instead, they noted that the Samsung Galaxy S3 was the world's best selling smartphone and then went on to talk about HDTVs, appliances, cameras and their quest to reinvent HDTV with apps and quad core processors.

While the quad-core processors coming in Samsung's 2013 HDTVs are likely their own Exynos processors present in the Galaxy Note 2 and the latest Chromebooks, the most important aspect of their announcement today was the user interface and functionality.

For SmartTVs they demoed a voice controlled recommendation function as well as a redesigned Smart Hub. Users of older  2012-model HDTVs can also add-on the Evolution Kit which updates them with the new processors and functionality.
