Nintendo Day unveils highly anticipated holiday games and amiibos
By Sonya Davidson
The countdown to Nintedo Day was just as exciting as the games themselves. Recently fans across were invited to join in a special event in Toronto at Union Station leading up to one of the biggest launch days in with some of Nintendo's most iconic characters. Hundreds showed up for the event to get a preview of the games that have officially launched on November 21.
Already a clear favourite in our household, Super Smash Bros is now available for Wii U. This latest entry follows the successful launch of the same title recently for Nintendo 3DS. As my son tells me, the game includes even MORE features than the portable version giving players even more to discover (yes, our house is the hottest playdate in the 'hood). In addition, the Nintendo Day launched the company's first round of amiibo figures - Nintendo's first foray into the toy-to-life category. It's definitely a new dimension to the game. Players link the amiibo character via the Gamepad and can use the characters for amazing capabilities! You'll see!
The first series of amiibo offers 12 characters: Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth. Other characters will be released in December.
Nintendo Day also included the very fun new evolution of the well-loved franchise with Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire games, launched exclusively for Nintendo 3DS. With the new Mega Evolutions of favourite characters, new areas to explore an dnew ways to travel, fans who love the original Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire games will feel experience their own adventures through the Hoeen region for the first time. Endless fun that will no doubt be a favourite -- especially for those long road trips this holiday season! Both games are available in-store and at the Nintendo eShop.
We're excited about the soon to be launched Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (release date December 5) for Wii U. We've been previewing the game and the characters are waaaay tooo cute. Captain Toad and Toadette must find their way through enemy-infested locations like Wild West shanties and Goomba waterparks. Each location is riddled with puzzles and secrets to discover. The tiny heroes are on the hunt fo the ultimate treasure..and who doesn't love a treasure hunt?
Captain Toad first appeared in Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U. They were such a hit with fans that Nintendo has now expanded the characters in their very own game. Totally adorable.
Stay tuned for more exciting news!
