Bevel hopes to bring 3D photo imaging to mobile devices

Matter and Form, creators of the first affordable 3D scanner have just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their latest mobile photo gadget that definitely has caught my attention. Bevel is a compatible attachment that can turn any iOS or Android device into a 3D camera and will take smartphonography to the next level.

How it works? The Bevel simply attaches into the headphone jack of your smartphone or tablet. Then, using your device, you pan the object or person like a regular photo to create a 3D image. Bevel uses an eye safe laser light and the existing camera on your device.

The Bevel comes with a free app and images can be uploaded to social networks and shared.

I just checked into their Kickstarter page and the price of Bevel looks like it could be ready to go end of year if they can meet their needs.

Matter and Form Inc. (formerly Matterform) was founded by designers and programmers who needed a high-resolution 3D scanner but couldn’t afford one; so they made their own. The first product, the Matter and Form 3D Scanner, began shipping in Fall 2014 and has sold thousands of units worldwide.
