London - Motorola's most popular and disruptive handset just got a major of an update today. The Moto G stormed into the market two years ago as an affordable smartphone designed to move millions of users from archaic feature phones into the smartphone age. Priced affordably yet featuring performance and features that could compete with the flagships of the time, the Moto G was very well received and has since become Motorola's best selling model.
Unveiled today, Moto G Gen 3 bumps up the specs with a 1.4 GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8 or 16GB of storage as well as improved build and IPX7 water resistance. The camera of the Moto G is now 13 megapixels and IPx7 certification, good for submersion in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes.
Moto G will be value-priced at about $199. In Canada, it will be available from Bell Mobility, Koodo, TELUS or Virgin Mobile starting July 31, or at Wind Mobile in the coming weeks.
The new Moto G has a 2470 mAh battery rated to last all day, it inherits the 13 megapixel camera that was in the Nexus 6 but is even more capable with a f/2.0 aperture and a color-balancing dual LED flash that makes better pictures when used with flash photography.
Moto G has a 5-inch, 720p HD (1280 x 720 resolution), with a 294 ppi. It has a 5 MP front facing camera with an f2.2 aperture. Motorola is offering the Moto Maker customisation feature for the Moto G now in countries that support it (not Canada) and various replaceable shells and covers will also be available for this smartphone.
Stay tuned for our full review of the Canadian variant of the Motorola Moto G in the coming weeks.
