Sony updates Xperia smartphone line at MWC

Sony Mobile didn't just have one notable smartphone to show off in Barcelona for this year's Mobile World Congress, it had three. Expanding the Xperia line, the company introduced the first “X” Series smartphones: Xperia X, Xperia X Performance and Xperia XA.

The three Xperia X phones all fit within three distinct segments but all share three tentpole features  with improved camera, battery and design. Borrowing some technology from Sony's Alpha line of cameras, the new shooters on all three device lets you choose your subject and then predicts its motion, so you can capture the action in perfect focus, free from blur.

Battery life has also been given a siginificant boost with up to two days use on a single charge thanks to Qnovo’s Adaptive Charging technology2 and Sony’s smart battery management system.

In terms of desigm, all three Xperia X models feature premium look and feel. Each X series smartphone brings a curved glass display within a rounded, continuous frame for a familiar form that feels comfortable in your hand. The unified design concept is also extended to Xperia XA, which features a stunning edge-to-edge display.

Of course, water resistance has long been a staple for Xperia smartphone and these three variants should feature that as well.

Canadian availability and pricing are yet to be determined but chances are good we will see at least one of these variants come to Canadian carriers in the spring.
