Netflix tests out new ‘Ultra’ pricing tier

Netflix might be trying out a new higher pricing tier that could affect existing plans. The streaming service is calling this new tier Ultra and it allows up to four devices to receive Ultra HD video and audio streaming at the same time. The existing subscriptions plans are Basic ($8.99), Standard ($10.99), and Premium ($13.99). Basic allows for one screen at a time; Standard allows for two; and Premium allows for four. The new plan, as seen tested in different countries, costs €16.99 in Italy (approx. CA$26). And with it in play, some users are seeing the Premium downgraded from four screens to two and Standard to just one display.
Not all subscribers will be seeing this test, though. According to Netflix spokeswoman Smita Saran, We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time. In this case, we are testing slightly different price points and features to better understand how consumers value Netflix."
