Apple's iPhone 5c is now a vintage product with limited support
Apple has announced that the iPhone 5c is now considered a vintage product and will have limited support in terms of software and apps moving forward. The iPhone 5c was the first new iPhone geared at the midrange and brought all the goodness of the iPhone 5s line into a fun, and colourful "unapologetically plastic," form factor. The iPhone 5c was also quite popular with the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) office crowd moving from Blackberries into more modern and popular iOS devices. The iPhone 5c was a good seller in its time and sleek product that was beloved by users who wanted a cheaper alternative to the costlier metal iPhones.
While Apple has never returned to a polycarbonate smartphone form factor, it did repeat the colours motif with the iPhone XR, and now with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 lines.
