Oprah's new Apple TV+ series tackles racism, other 'impactful' topics
Oprah Winfrey's upcoming Apple TV+ show takes her back to her talk show roots and comes at a time when there's a national reckoning about systemic racism in the United States. The Oprah Conversation will debut on the Apple streaming service for free on July 30, and its first episodes will focus on racism in the US. The first episode will have How To Be an Antiracist author Ibram X. Kendi and Winfrey talking to white people about racism. Her goal with the show is to "conversations that unite us—not divide us."
The second episode will stream on August 7, and it will include a two-part interview with former football player Emmanuel Acho, the host of Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man. While filmed remotely, the episode will have audience participation with questions from white and Latino guests.
The new series has no fixed timetable. But according to a statement released by Apple and Winfrey, it will "explore impactful and relevant topics with fascinating thought leaders from all over the world." Winfrey has a multi-year deal with the tech giant to produce content for its service. Her other Apple ventures include Oprah Talks COVID-19 and Oprah's Book Club.
