LG unveils unusual DualUp 16:18 monitor

Source: LG

LG is ready to introduce what it calls "a completely new format in the monitor market." Its new DualUp monitor sports an unusual 16:18 aspect ratio, which LG says is the same screen real estate of two 21.5-inch displays and offers a vertical split view function that "lets users see more in one glance."

Another benefit LG claims for its unique form factor is that double-height offers ergonomic benefits. It "helps reduce side-to-side head movements, the main cause of neck pain." The design might make it easier to keep an eye on the multiple apps you have open. And as The Verge pointed out, LG seems to be marketing it to video editors who could get a lot of use out of this aspect ratio.

The DualUp (model 28MQ780) has a 2,560 x 2,880 resolution and measures 27.6 inches on the diagonal. It has up to 300 nits of brightness and covers 98 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. This monitor attaches to LG's Ergo stand, which the display comes with, and LG claims it clamps to "most" desks to help save space.

The company hasn't shared pricing yet, but it plans to reveal more details during its virtual CES 2022 presentation on January 4.
