Microsoft launches Surface Duo 2 with more flagship-ready specs

Microsoft has just refreshed the Surface Duo with the launch of the Surface Duo 2, bringing specs that make up for the shortcomings of its predecessor. This Android 11 dual-screen device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 128/256/512GB of storage and 8GB of LPDDR5 memory.

It gets two 5.8-inch AMOLED displays that become 8.3 inches combined. The new displays slightly curve on the inner edge. When the Surface Duo 2 is folded, the curves are visible from the outside and give a sneak peek of notifications. It'll glow when a notification comes in.

These displays reach up to 800 nits of brightness and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Microsoft bumps up the refresh rate to 90Hz to make scrolling a much smoother experience.

The back of the Surface Duo 2 gets a triple camera setup this time, including a 12-megapixel primary camera, 12-megapixel telephoto lens, and 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor.

The Surface Duo 2 will also support the new Surface Slim Pen 2, which you can attach to the outside of the device to charge.

There is still no wireless charging support for its 4,449mAh battery. But it does support 23W USB-C fast-charging. Unfortunately, you'll need to buy that charger separately.

The Microsoft Surface Duo is available at a starting price of US$1,500 (around CA$1,899 converted), with pre-orders kicking off in some markets today. You can get it in Glacier or the new Obsidian colour.
