Twitter now lets you send Tips in Bitcoin, plus other new features

Twitter has been steadily growing the feature set its platform has been offering. The social media company is focusing on improving on three fronts:

• Give you more ways to express yourself.
• Help creators monetize on the platform.
• Offer more control over your interactions on Twitter. 

The company shared some updates during a press call yesterday, and we'd like to highlight some of the features we're excited to see. 

Spaces will be more visible

Twitter is refining its Spaces feature with several updates coming over the next few months. This includes recording and replays so people can experience Spaces conversations after they happen. Twitter will also improve the discovery of Spaces by placing them on top of your timeline or in dedicated locations.

Tips feature accepts Bitcoin now

Twitter has begun rolling out its Tips feature to all iOS users globally, so those on Apple's platform can send and receive Tips from now on. The company said it would roll out to Android users soon. And for those looking to add Bitcoin as a means to Tip or receive Tips, you can now do so using Strike, a payments app built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network that lets you send and receive Bitcoin free and instantly. This option is coming to users in the United States and El Salvador. Those in other countries can receive Tips via their Bitcoin address.

The company is also exploring an NFT authentication service. But that is still in its early, experimental stages. But Twitter envisions it as a way for creators to showcase NFTs on Twitter along with details about ownership.

Program for Spaces hosts

Twitter is gearing up to offer a program for Spaces hosts to give those budding audio creators financial, technical, and marketing support. Beyond announcing the program, the company doesn't have details yet on who will qualify and what kind of support these creators will get. 

Get a heads up

No, we aren't talking about the game. Instead, Twitter is looking at a way to give you a heads up before joining a potentially heated discussion. Think of it as a trigger warning of sorts before joining a conversation. 

Profile labels for automated accounts

This feature is something Twitter is testing out right now. It is testing out labels attached to automated accounts, so you'll know if you're conversing with an actual person or a bot. The company is planning to explore other account types, including businesses, brands, and memorialized accounts.

Word filters

Twitter is exploring the idea of keeping unwanted words or emojis out of your replies. It's still a concept, though, so we can't share much on how this will be implemented.

Remove yourself from a convo

Soon you'll get the option to take yourself out of conversations you don't want to be in. Twitter will let you take yourself out of these instances without notifying those who @ mentioned you that you'd left the thread.
