Instagram to tweak algorithm to 'value original content more'

Instagram is tweaking its algorithm again. This time, the focus is on how it ranks content. In a Twitter video, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said they will "value original content more." That means if you make videos from scratch, you will be prioritized. He said, "you should get more credit than if you are reshaping something that you found from someone else."

He added in the comments that Instagram already tries to prioritize original content but said, "it's becoming increasingly important that [we] don't overvalue aggregators." It's unclear how effective this change could be or what it will mean for the social media app. But Mosseri said it'll do its best to "predict" whether a photo or video is original. He conceded that they "can't know for sure."

Instagram has been working on incentivizing creators to post original content on its platform instead of resharing from competitors like TikTok. But this time, the focus is on discouraging those who have accounts that simply aggregate and share popular memes and other reposted content.
