Lenovo introduces security-focused ThinkPhone

Source: Lenovo

In honour of the 30th year of its business-oriented ThinkPad line, Lenovo launched its first smartphone for IT professionals. The Lenovo ThinkPhone is built to work seamlessly with its ThinkPad PCs.

This smartphone gets a discrete processor core that isolates sensitive data like PINs, passwords, and crypto keys. The ThinkPhone also supports Lenovo's ThinkShield security suite and Moto Secure, a hub for security and privacy features. And IT admins can use tools like Moto OEMConfig or Moto Device Manager to customize lock screen settings, pin layout scrambling, and network alerts.

Lenovo packs in flagships specs into the ThinkPhone as well. This Android 13 device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor, up to 512GB of storage, and up to 12GB of RAM. It also has a 6.6-inch pOLED display, 5G and Wi-Fi 6E support, and a 50-megapixel "Ultra Pixel" camera.

The ThinkPhone is IP68-rated, allowing it to withstand up to five feet of submersion for 30 minutes. Its build is also military standard (MIL-STD 810H) certified using a “lightweight aramid fiber that’s stronger than steel” and aircraft-grade aluminum. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protects its display.

There's a customizable button on the side that can launch business apps or trigger PC/mobile syncing. Lenovo is also working with Microsoft to add a push-to-talk button for Microsoft Teams. The ThinkPhone also ships with Microsoft 365, Outlook, and Teams preinstalled.

Lenovo hasn't revealed pricing for the ThinkPhone, but it will come to the US, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Australia and "select countries across Asia" in early 2023. IT departments can contact local Lenovo customer representatives to avail of the device.
