Google Pixel Watch 2: A powerful and stylish smartwatch with Fitbit features
Google is back with a new and improved Pixel Watch 2. It is a smartwatch with a strong focus on fitness and health tracking. It features new sensors and features from Fitbit, the wearable maker Google bought in 2019, including the stress-detection sensor from the Fitbit Sense 2.
The Pixel Watch 2 retains its signature round screen and 41 mm case, but with some subtle design changes. The 1.2-inch AMOLED screen is now flush with the digital crown, eliminating the small gap from the previous model. The watch’s body is also made of recycled aluminum, making it lighter and eco-friendly. It comes in at 31 grams instead of 36 grams. And it has Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It comes in various colours, such as Polished Silver/Bay, Polished Silver/Porcelain, Matte Black/Obsidian, and Champagne Gold/Haze.
This Pixel smartwach also boasts a powerful performance upgrade, thanks to the Qualcomm SW5100 processor, also known as the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1. It is paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, a big jump from the previous model’s 8GB. The health tracking is also more advanced, using an array of LEDs and photodiodes to measure heart rate and other metrics from different angles.
Google also leverages its machine-learning expertise to provide deeper insights into your body and daily routines. The Pixel Watch 2 uses advanced generative artificial intelligence, which will be available through the Fitbit Labs program. Google says this AI can produce more accurate heart rate readings and detect signs of stress using a new continuous electrodermal activity (cEDA) sensor.
The battery life of the Pixel Watch 2 is slightly improved to 306mAh, but the charging speed is significantly faster. Google claims that the Pixel Watch 2 can go from zero to full charge in just 75 minutes, compared to the 2.5 hours of the original Pixel Watch.
The Pixel Watch 2 has the same connectivity options as its predecessor, such as 4G, UMTS, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 4. It is now available for pre-order on the official Google store. The smartwatch is available for CA$479.99 for the Wi-Fi model, and VA$549.99 for the LTE version. It will hit store shelves beginning on October 12.
