Samsung and Maison Margiela launch a new limited-edition Galaxy Z Flip5
Samsung introduces a new limited-edition Galaxy Z Flip5 in collaboration with Maison Margiela, a Paris-based high-end fashion house. This is their second joint project, following the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Maison Margiela Edition. The new phone, which was leaked earlier, is called the Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition. The phone is available in China, Hong Kong, and South Korea, with 512GB of internal storage.
In Korea, it costs KRW 2,497,000 (CA$2,629) and can be purchased through a lottery at Samsung.com. The phone will be displayed in South Korea at Samsung Gangnam and Samsung Store Hongdae from November 23.
Samsung says this phone is for those who seek freshness and unconventionality. The phone combines Samsung’s innovation in foldable phones with Maison Margiela’s deconstructive and sophisticated design.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition comes in a huge box that resembles archival sample storage used in atelier stores to store fabric samples and threads. The box is wrapped in a paper-based, woven book cloth fabric. The phone features Maison Margiela’s iconic jacket on its semi-transparent back and comes with two cases: a Flap Leather Case and a Flipsuit Case.
The Flap Leather Case shows an atelier’s craftsmanship with its natural black leather, woven fabric design, and genuine fabric label. It also has a pocket pattern that appears when the phone is opened and disappears when it is closed.
The Flipsuit Case has two NFC-based cards: one with a paint splatter design and the other with a silver plate. Both cards have Maison Margiela’s iconic numbering design. The phone’s theme changes according to the card used.
The phone also has a special theme and two wallpapers: Stitches and Trompe-L’oeil. The Stitches wallpaper has handwoven stitches on the cover and inner screens, while the Trompe-L’oeil wallpaper shows a jacket’s inner workings.
The three-tiered packaging box also includes a 25W charger and a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable.
Samsung has not revealed if it will launch this phone in other countries.
