Google introduces new AI editing tool for Photos

Image: Google

Google showed off an experimental editing tool for Google Photos at its I/O developer conference. Magic Editor uses artificial intelligence to fine-tune photos in ways that go beyond basic adjustments. For example, it can move a person to a different spot in the picture or remove unwanted people from the background. In a demo, we also see a child seated on a bench with colourful balloons being adjusted to be centred with Photos filling in parts of the bench and the balloons that weren't in the original shot.

Google says it has been using AI to organize and edit photos since Google Photos launched in 2015. But Magic Editor will offer more advanced and precise changes. The tool will be available later this year for select Pixel phones as it is still a work in progress.
