Is HTC making a comeback with a metaverse phone?

HTC has been out of the phone game for a long time. It even sold part of its mobile division to Google for the Pixel product line five years ago. However, the company is teasing a new entry for 2023 with the hashtag #seeUsoon, hinting at its U series.

The HTC U12+ was the last flagship phone from the U series and was launched in June 2018. It had decent specs for its time, but HTC did not follow up with another major flagship. Instead, it released the HTC U20 5G, a midrange device, and the HTC Exodus 1, a blockchain-focused phone. Last year, HTC released the niche HTC Desire 22 Pro metaverse phone.

The teaser does not reveal much about the new phone, but with the Viverse logo beside HTC’s, we might see a metaverse-based smartphone. Viverse is the brand’s own version of the metaverse. But with the metaverse hype dying down, it is curious to see HTC launching a phone based on this concept now. We hope that soon really means SOON.
